Aye, I have the same problem. The first thing I had to deal with, was my unfortunate situation in that the 80th floor boss just *had* to be the type and number so he (she?) oversouled on me. Then there's the fact that even with Ribbons, Stony Gaze still works, and 9 times out of 10 the first one she stones is my Cat Nip gunner and then she shatters her before I can even get a remedy off. It's freakin' stupid.

ok this is the easiest way ive found to beat chac. oh and just FYI. after you beat chac at lvl 80. he then becomes a regular monster on lvl's 80-84 so you actually have to beat him like 5 or 6 times afterwards unless you have the no encounter accessory.
dont bother trying to defend against the petrification. you cant. i had mastered darknights that were stoneproof that were being petrified. its like a super petrify or somthing
here it is:
3 gunners with lvl 3 trigger happy.
put catnip on 1 on the chars.
put auto haste on all of the chars
put +100% hp on the other 2 chars
put them all on the grid that gives them firststrike (highroad winds)
dont use the trigger happy's at the same time. wait till one person is done then start the next. chac will only get 1 turn, mabey 2. and then he'll be dead.

Using that strategy, I've gotten a total of 8 Trigger Happy attacks, and one very lucky mega pheonix to make all my characters alive . . . . . . only to have it use Heaven's Cateract and do like 12,000 damage to everyone killing them instantly.
And no, stoneproof and ribbons don't work. That was my first thought, to put my Dark Knights on, but they were quickly dispatched.

you got 8 triggers in? if you mean from everyone attacking that would mean your catnip girl got in 3 attacks? that should be 450kdmg at least. chac only has 437k hp. make sure your getting the full 15hits in with your lvl 3 trigger happy on your catnip gunner.
like i said ive beatin chac like 6 times in a row because he's in lvl's 81-84 as a regular monster and this stratagy does work every single time if you do it right.

For Chac, i used One Gunner with Cat Nip and Speed Bracer. Other 2 uses Mascot with HP+100% (with auto shell and protect learned). They both stand by just to use phoenix down and soft. For the gunner with Speed Bracer, she can hit up till 20hit combo of trigger happy.....plus cat nip...u only need 3 times....hemmm....maybe im lucky to win that Chac...
Hav anyone tried using the Hypello's Super Ribbon? Maybe her stone gaze could be block by this.

I actually found this boss fight to be the easiest so far, sparing the first one. I had:
Guner w/Cat Nip and Rabite's Foot
Beserker w/Crystal Bangle and White Lore
Beserker w/Crystal Bangle and Speed Bracer
I had the Rabite's Foot to lower the probability of Chac Stoning my Gunner, which she never did. I had the white lore ability so I could use Life if needed, and the speed bracer so i could quickly use a Soft. Took 4 turns of Trigger Happy and the thing was dead.

I finally defeated the Chaku last night. First I tried to oversoul the Chaku, but couldn't find one of smaller version of Chaku.
However, if you run into small basilisk type creature (there are two, one light color, one dark color) and they oversoul, Chaku will oversoul, atleast that's what I heard and when Chaku is oversouled, he does not use Heaven's Cataract.
But i defeated Chaku with Yuna & Rikku with Dark Knight (both level 98 & 99) Paine as Gunner w/ Speed Bracer & Cat Nip (level 99, w/ Trigger Happy Level 3)
Since you can't enter battle with Gunner in critical condition (if you saved or visited the airship, it automatically heals your HP, unless you're starting from Level 79 or so), I was lucky enough to have Chaku kill Paine immediately, Yuna used Phoenix Down on Paine, Rikku use Darkness once then she got turned to stone and Chaku destroyed the stone. Paine used Trigger Happy Twice and third time, Chaku went down. I don't know if was just me, but Paine's Trigger Happy seemed to go much faster since I gave her Speed Bracer.
I didn't have Rabit's foot or firststrike accesories. But so far, this has been the toughest boss I've faced in FFX-2.

Oversouling Chac is much much easier then original form of Chac. Most of the time i uses Lady Luck CONGRATS to beat her during random encounter. But i defeated her in her original form at level 80. Hard man! Exspecially her Heaven's Cataract.

tbrad, actually u can enter battle in yellow health. You can do it by save point (just don't touch save point after). The "lift" thing doesn't heal u like the ones in the actual dungeon do. Just equip someone with say wring or blood lust (wring is lower health, for me anyway) then equip crystal/mithril/whateveruwant bagle and u'll be in yellow for the fight. I can't beat this either, but I am glad that Trema is easier then her. I was almost crying when I am all lvl 99, a mastered gunner with catnip and speed boots, and 2 mastered dark knights with + health and on the break hp limit grid. I will beat her. To over soul her, i have to go down in the dungeon right? I can't fight a baskilisk anywhere else? And when it oversouls, i don't kill it right? I run and fight her.

To beat Chaku, I've done following.
I had Paine as Gunner w/ Trigger Happy Level 3. Catnip & Haste Bangle. Using Ray of Hope Garment Grid.
I had Yuna & Rikku as Dark Knight, Crystal Bangle on both, Speed Bracer on Yuna and Champion Belt on Rikku.
It helps if you enter battle with Paine in critical damage. If you don't have bloodlust, you can just go down to lower Bevelle and fight fiend and attack Paine until she's in Critical damage, if she dies, use Phoenix Down, do not use Life magic. When Paine is in critical damage, it activates Haste Bangle ability, therefore put her in Auto-Haste. Since you're in Haste, you should be able to connect 17 - 18 shots in one Trigger Happy Level 3. Without haste, you only connect about 12 - 13 times.
Then use Yuna & Rikku to revive Paine if she's dead, or use Soft on Petrified person.
If Chaku is Oversouled, she won't use Heaven's Cataract. If she's not Oversouled, she'll use Heaven's Cataract and you just have to hope that you can get that second round of Trigger Happy in before she uses it.
Also, to get her Oversouled, you have to fight off fiends that're smaller version of Chaku. They're Basilik type fiend, one is yellowish white color and other is grayish black color. Once you have those fiends oversouled, you must kill them. Once they're oversouled, it's registers the Monster data as oversouled fiend. (You check the status of oversouled fiends on Shinra's Monster Data)
I hope this helps.

wait, i'm confused. I fight basiliks until one oversouls. DO I KILL THAT OR RUN AWAY and fight Chac? If I kill it, wont chac be #1 in the next 10 or whatever cycle?

I haven't use catnip to defeat her, i use 3 warriors:
Yuna: Highwind Road + 0mp acc. + sword Tome
Rikku: GG with half mp + 100mp + 40mp acc.
Paine: Highwind Road + 0mp acc. + Force of Nature
it has a little trouble in the beginning, but after that, I keep using delay buster, then she can't do anything till died. =)

I tried easier way to kill her: use 3 theives have first strikes learned, and equip Tetra Master GG, attack her one by one, if you can keep the good timing, then you will have easy win

All I used was a catnip on a lady luck, and used 4 dice, and had crystal bangle and ribbon on every character, so that it wasn't that hard, cause he never got to use stone gaze ^^

With the break damage limit thing, is that for the girls' special dress-spheres, or is there an actual accessory? If so, does anyone know where to get it?

The ACC your looking for is Invincible. You can read about it here. (http://ffx2.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47822&highlight=invincible)

Wow. Looks like I'm not the only one who had a little trouble on Chac.
The strategy I used is to equip everyone with Mascot. It took a long time to beat her, but after a few shots, it was worth it. Now I had learnt all the abilities, so I had Yuna repeatedly cast Moogle CureJa to everyone, as it no only heals, but removes Status Aliments. With Paine, I repeatedly cast Cactling Gun. And I can't remember what i did with Rikku. i think she was a backup healer. She'd use Soft on Yuna if she was petrified, and Ether/Turbo Ether/Elixr on Paine if she ran out of MP.
The other Strategy I heard but never tried, was to have 3 Samurais, all equipped with Ragnarok & Speed Bracer, and equipped with a Garment Grid that cut down their waiting time. Switch the Battle Cursor to Memory, and have them repeatedly use Dismissal.
Good luck with the Fight!

The one and only time i beat her was when i used yuna's special dresspear untill she got whiped out took awhile then i had rikku and paine as dark knights just kept attacking and healing. but i lucked out on that one because he killed paine and rikku had like 108 or something for her health and got one last attack in that killed it. don't remember what i had equiped though.

or, when in doubt and all else fails, just do what i did....bribe her with over 1 million, 500 thousand gil and make her go away!!! just put someone in lady luck, equip with 2 rabite's foots, highroad gg, and use the other two in case she gets stoned. if it misses, just reload until it works. you'll be broke afterward, but it's better than dying i think!! :D

Did you try maybe using shmooth sailing? Its a super ribbon. ribbons only guard from some status ailments and a super ribbon like blocks all status ailments.

how do u break damage limit and use trigger happy. the only way i know is higher power. but that takes too long. u have to change the dressspheres around the heart. so is there an accessory i'm missing or something?

3 gunners with lvl 3 trigger happy.
put catnip on 1 on the chars.
put auto haste on all of the chars
put +100% hp on the other 2 chars
put them all on the grid that gives them firststrike (highroad winds)
dont use the trigger happy's at the same time. wait till one person is done then start the next. chac will only get 1 turn, mabey 2. and then he'll be dead.
Ok, this "Gunner" strategy on this guy...shoot, probably anyone else in the game WORKS. It took 3 rounds, 3 rounds and he was dead. Yuna had a CatNip, and a Haste Bangle, Rikku had a Kaiser Knuckles and a Speed Bracer, and Paine had a Power Wrist and a Speed Bracer. I entered the battle with Yuna only having about 325 HP so she was automatically in Auto-Haste and Auto-9999 damage. Oh, she had "First Strike" too with the Highroads Garment Grid.
This works, if I was paying attention, I bet it took less then 60 seconds. This is like, cheating. :p
Oh yeah, he never attacked me even once. :D

One of the easiest ways to defeat Chac is to use the Lady Luck dressphere with the Random Reels ability learned. First things first, before you actually engage in battle with this fiend be sure to configure the atb to wait in the configuration menu. Then equip her with any garment grids or accessories that enable auto-haste and first-strike. When the battle begins, immediately select the Random Reels ability and begin to stop the reels so that you align three 7's. This will enable the CONGRATS!!! ability which will cause the fiend to leave the battle and give you a large amount of gil. Please note that your success with aligning the three 7's will depend upon your own skill. With enough practice outside of a challenging battle, you should be able to align the three 7's easily and throughout any battle. Also, if the above tactics should fail, you should try again or kill enough basilisks to allow the Chac to oversoul. The oversouling animation should buy you enough time to complete this task and walk away with an easy victory.

For me it took an element of luck to beat chac. It was pretty hard. I used 1 dark knight, a gunner, and another gunner with cat nip and a speed bracer. It took two cat nip turns to kill her. After the first one, I used my other gunner's trigger happy to disarm chac because she couldn't attack at the same time. Then, just before she could do heaven's cataracts I managed to hit her with trigger happy + cat nip again. It took a few tries before I managed to win though.

this is what worked for me equip thief dressphere to all your characters and haste bangle, make sure you lerned first strike, keep attacking chac in a pattern like 1...2...3 and chac won't even get the chance to hit you, make them attack one after another

You make it sound so easy, but there is more to deafeating it than just that.
Heres a more detailed guide.
- sort your items and put Soft up at the top; you'll need it
- also have Pheonix Downs up at the top, too
- I had three gunners all on Highroad Winds GG; my main gunner
was put into yellow health, then equipped with Cat Nip and
Speed Bracer
- the other two gunners had on defense and HP boosting accessories
such as Crystal Bangles and Crystal Gloves
- start the battle and have the first person use Trigger Happy
and PREPARE to start the next Trigger Happy when the first one
is almost up; after the second round of Trigger Happy, use your
last gunner's Trigger Happy; you want to use these abilities
sequentially, and not simultaneously (the idea is to delay the
boss with an endless attack so that your non-shooting gunners
have time to recharge); you should get about 2-3 rounds with
your main gunner before Chac starts to actually get a move on
your team
- Chac's first attack is either Stoney Glare or hitting hard (its
normal attacks add Stone); YOU MUST use soft before Chac gets
a second turn; otherwise, you will either lose a party member
for the rest of the battle or worse all three will die from
Heaven's Cataract
- keep Chac busy on trying to stone your party and have your
Cat Nip'ed gunner do a few more rounds to finish this boss; if
she dies, use Phoenix Downs only so she comes back in yellow
health
Note: Ribbons won't work if you are trying to protect your team from Stoney Glare.
